The North Face Asteroid Pants
The North Face men’s Asteroid Pants are ultra durable alpine trousers made from four-way stretch WindWall® fabric. They’ll keep you protected from the elements but breathe well when you’re working hard, making them ideal for ice and mixed climbing, mountaineering and ski touring. Protecting the inner leg from crampon scratches is a Kevlar® Schoeller kick patch and re-enforced knee sections help prevent rock abrasion. Finishing off the package is a DWR coating, just in case of a sudden down-pour and zip adjustable bottom cuffs with internal elastic adjustments so they fit over your boots.
|MATERIALS||Stretch woven, DWR-treated nylon softshell|
|POCKETS||Two zip hand pockets and a zip thigh pocket|
WindWall® is a fleece fabric developed exclusively by The North Face, utilising a special fabric-bonding process to compact the fibres and allowing the finished fabric to block out 80-90% of wind. Despite being more compact, WindWall® still retains all the stretch, comfort and breathability of regular fleece, while blocking out the negative effects of windchill.
WindWall® is available in two varieties: WindWall® 1, which features a mesh liner, and WindWall® 2, which has a gridded fleece liner for extra warmth and protection on really windy days.
The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish has become almost ubiquitous in the outdoor industry, and the satisfying water beading it provides has become the hallmark of a beautiful jacket. It is not strictly waterproof but will provide protection on it’s own against a light shower; however it does wear off so needs to be topped up from time to time. The DWR stops water from soaking into the outer layer of waterproof fabrics like Gore-Tex meaning they remain breathable and light in even in heavy rain.
