Mountain Hardwear Monkey Man Grid ll Jacket
Mountain Hardwear's Monkey Man Grid ll Jacket is so warm, it didn't need any changes for 2016. This stretchy, warm and comfortable un-hooded fleece is super-comfortable for layering or wearing on its own - ideal for anything from autumn days at the crag to day long missions in the mountains. It’s made from Monkey Phur (or Polartec High Loft Grid to use the technical term) which is super-warm, light and compressible, with a gridded that structure massively enhances breathability. It's also equipped with gridded, stretch Hardface fleece side panels to allow for extra movement and moisture transfer where you really need it, and has two zip-up hand-warmer pockets, a zip-up chest pocket, and thumb holes. A great alternative to an insulating jacket for ski touring, mountaineering and other aerobic mountain adventures.

Monkey Phur: Polartec High Loft Grid
By combining the powers of soft and fluffy Polartec High Loft with the superior moisture-wicking abilities of Polartec Power Grid, Mountain Hardwear’s Monkey Phur was born. The long, fine, fluffy fibres of High Loft trap more air and provide outstanding warmth and breathability, while the gridded structure of Power Grid brings unparalleled moisture-wicking capabilities to the mix. These qualities combine forces to make a fabric that’s super-soft, comfortable, lightweight and compressible for all your cold-weather needs.
Hardface technology was developed by Polartec and is a means of fusing a special polymer to the outer layer of fleece fabric. This makes the surface of the fleece smooth and abrasion-resistant, and massively improves its water and wind-resistance, while allowing the levels of stretch and breathability to stay the same.

I've the hooded and regular version of this jacket. The hood is a snug elasticated model which is designed to be worn under other outer gear such as a hardshell, a softshell or an outer down jacket in really cold conditions. The monkey grid uses polartec high loft grid fleece to provide equivalent warmth to a 600 fill power down jacket (my experience, not a manufacturer's claim) with similar light weight and an athletic fit. It's incredibly light for a fleece. The material is wonderfully soft and cosy against my skin. There are only 2 negatives. It's not wind resistant and so requires an outer layer on blustery days (I wear an MH Dragon softshell) and I don't find the collar as comfortable as the rest of the jacket. However, this is just me as I prefer a lower collar on anything that isn't hooded. I've worn it with my monkey softshell down to -5 C and it was perfectly warm while providing great mobility. By itself, you could wear it in -C weather so long as it wasn't too windy or wet. It dries quickly but unsurprisingly provides little protection from the rain. It's a fleece! It's a great buy and good value however. Highly recommended.
A great, technical jacket ideal for any weather condition.
Warm but very light soft but very resistant and in the best price. Strongly recommended for any excursion!
