The Edelrid Skimmer Pro Dry 7,1 mm comes with the Pro Dry treatment which not only adds water and dirt repellency but increases its durability to extend its lifespan more similar to that of a heavier rope. Pro Dry Treatment
Pro Dry ropes are particularly quick-drying, absorb virtually no water, and are resistant to freezing in cold temperatures. Due to their minimal water absorption (1-2 %) in accordance with the UIAA water-repellent test, Pro Dry ropes hardly increase in weight. As such, they continue to perform well and provide high safety reserves even in wet conditions. In addition, our Pro Dry finish improves the gliding characteristics of the individual fibers, which makes the rope more abrasion-resistant and extends its lifespan. Pro Dry is the first ever finishing process that makes it possible to produce extremely narrow diameter ropes without compromising on performance. Whether mixed routes on north faces, ice climbing on frozen waterfalls or sport routes at the crag, the ropes in the Pro Dry series excel due to their outstanding handling, long lifespan, and high safety reserves.
Thermo Shield Treatment
Thermo Shield is the standard finishing treatment that Edelrid apply to all their ropes to give them the famous EDELRID feel and handling characteristics. This thermal stabilizing process ensures that the core and sheath yarns are perfectly balanced. A special heat treatment first relaxes then shrinks the rope’s fibres. This harmonizes the individual yarns inside the rope and ensures that it remains compact and supple throughout its life. The result is a rope that does not shrink or quickly become stiff. Ropes that do not undergo a thermal stabilizing process often shrink and dry out more quickly. They tend to be stiffer than ropes that have been heat-treated.
