Metolius Wood Grips Compact
The Metolius Wood Grips Compact II is a mid-sized climbing training board aimed at all climbing levels and built with super skin friendly wood.
The second iteration of the Metolius Wood Grips Compact Fingerboard is perfectly suited to those who want to be able to use the fingerboard for long periods, or combined with regular climbing. The super skin friendly wood is much nicer to hold than resin with thin skinned fingertips. There are ample hold options on this mid sized board and the steps in difficulty between the holds provide a good indication to your improvement as you make steady gains. It is worth pointing out that at first the board will be quite slick, but as you begin to use it, the board will get better to use as chalk begins to become embedded and provides a better grip and more pleasant use.
The Metolius Wood Grips Compact II is a smaller version of the Deluxe, ideal for hanging in smaller places above door frames. It is very similar in its design, though it is missing some of the smaller climbing holds. Combined with the slot nature of most of the holds, higher levels of ability may prefer to look elsewhere. Other wise this fingerboard is perfectly suited for beginners to intermediates. It is quite an expensive board, but if it will see a lot of use then it's a good choice. Occasional fingerboard users may still prefer a resin board.

I am a relatively novice climber and bought this to develop finger strength. It's a lovely looking product and does look nicer than some resin boards. It was easy to mount and sits nicely out of the way so is not too obvious. The wood texture provides less grip/friction than resin boards so, as a beginner, I did struggle to perform some exercises. However, I found that this could be overcome by doing offset hangs or pull-ups using the jugs as well as a pocket (these kind of tips are also in a neat little booklet that came with the board). I would definitely recommend this product, particularly as it is less prone to shred your skin than a resin board. I love the look and feel of it and am enjoying every use.
I did quite a bit of research before buying this and it ticked all the boxes. It's small enough and good looking to be able to install in a family home without looking totally out of place. The engineering is great and it feels really smooth to the touch. There are a number of different depth pockets as well as a sloper at the top and 2 jugs and you can also use it for pull ups. I much prefer the look to the plastic/resin models and would totally recommend it.
