La Sportiva Cobra Climbing Shoe

The La Sportiva Cobra climbing shoe is a highly sensitive downturned slipper designed for gym and bouldering performance with the comfort of an unlined shoe. Looking at the Cobra, it's a really good value climbing shoe with no unnecessary technical features and just the fundamentalist design. A great shoe for gym boulderers in need of a highly flexible and soft shoe that isn't too uncomfortable or painful.

The Cobra uses the softer Vibram XS Grip 2 compound designed for maximum friction, and the sole is only 3.5mm thick. This high level of grip and sensitivity will perform extremely well on steep and overhanging routes with microholds, and the absence of laces and technical features should make the shoe incredibly supple. Although, this shoe is still meant to be really comfortable. One reviewer said that he wore it whilst multipitch climbing!

Being a slipper, the Cobra should be fitted on the snug side. But bear in mind that the unlined suede leather will stretch up to a full size! So remember to size appropriately, and don't be worried by the break-in period. It will be worth it!

Nice shoe

Very worth

Very nice slate color, looks super good IRL. Fits well, cant wait to climb in it

Very happy with this shoe

I've been using the Cobra's for the last two weeks and they are currently my favorite shoe. The fact that they are so flexible takes a little getting used to because your toes have to provide a little more power than they would with a very stiff shoe. However, with the feel and the Xs grip rubber they will stick to just about anything while smearing and the slight downturn gives enough power to still edge. I've used them indoor and out and they are comfortable for both! I was a little worried about durability for a thinner softer rubber but that's making my footwork more thoughtful and precise which can only be a good thing.

Great slipper!

I bought these as a gym shoe and moderate sport climbing shoe. So far they are wonderful! The fit is really similar to the Miura Lace. The edging is great as well. I love a soft shoe so this ticks that box for me! They haven't stretched too much yet, but surely they will as they have a leather upper area. If La Sportiva fits your foot well, try it out for a gym shoe! I have a very straight foot and low volume heel. The heel isn't amazing on my foot but I don't feel insecure with heel hooks. Toe rubber is lacking a bit, but still works somewhat for toe hooks.

Great Bouldering Shoe

My favorite things about these are how comfortable they are and how sharp the toe is. I can wear them for a 2hr bouldering session with little to no foot pain by the end, and they're very nice and flexible to climb in. The sharp toe makes it easy to stand on tiny holds and is good for getting a good amount of force when roof climbing. I typically climb 7a/b and these have more or less suited my needs, especially for the price.

The reason for 4 stars is because the heel fits me quite poorly, even though the length of the shoe is proper, making is hard to heel hook. The lack of rubber on top makes toe hooks uncomfortable as well.

If the next time I buy shoes I'm on a budget, I would likely get these again, but if I have a bit more to spend then I will try to find shoes with a bit more rubber on top and a better heel fit. Overall pretty happy, and the sole doesn't seem like it's wearing out too quick.
