La Sportiva Katana Laces Climbing Shoe
The La Sportiva Katana Laces is the laced version of the much loved Katana VCS, THE all-round shoe designed for beginner climbers seeking to up their climbing game as well as experienced climbers in need of a versatile shoe that can perform in any situation. The La Sportiva Katana Laces also have a wider fit than the original, so it should feet those with medium feet better this time around.
The La Sportiva Katana Laces is very much the same as the VCS, but it has been made to be slightly more rigid and includes P3® Technology that helps maintain the shoe's powerful shape after heavy abuse. La Sportiva have rated it 4/5 on their rigidity scale (the VCS is rated 3/5), which is probably down to the laces, which will give the shoe a slightly firmer and less flexible feel. This more precise fit and stabler feel of the shoe will be ideal for anyone who leans towards more vertical climbing with lots of edging, but this is still a great all-round shoe and can be used for bouldering and technical routes.
As for comfort and fit, Sportiva have used two materials in the shoe: the upper part of the shoe is Lorica, a water-repellent and breathable fabric, and the lining is a material called "Pacific" designed for stretchy comfort in the toes and heel. La Sportiva recommend fitting the VCS slightly on the loose side, but bear in mind that its lined interior will stretch up to 1/2 a size.

P3® Permanent Power Platform
After intensive abuse, downturned climbing shoes can start to lose their distinctive shape. La Sportiva’s P3 rand system prevents from this happening so your shoe maintains its powerful profile, permanently.

The Katanas are great all around. Perform well in any kind of outdoor rock climbing. You can even use them in the gym but IMO that's a waste of rubber.
Comfortable, high-quality materials and well-made.
Follow this website sizing guide if you haven't tried LaSportiva before.
After about 30 years of wearing every imaginable shoe out there I can happily say that for me these are the best shoe I have owned.
These shoes are awesome, both for rock and gym.
For everyday shoes I have a 43,5-44 (EU), I got a 42 for these climbing shoes, even a 42,5 would have been fine I guess.
The delivery was also perfect as usual. Strongly recommended
Simply put the best all around climbing shoes that I own for intermediate level. These things can do anything from pockets to cracks and fit as expected. I am so glad that they make them 1 size bellow. I don't like to credit shoes with increasing your performance but I saw a grade improvement with these things on and they are surprisingly comfortable and well made for being an aggressive shoe. La Sportiva please don't ever stop making these !!
This was my first katana laces purchase, I also have a python and miura vs to compare with, quality is superb as you used to from la sportiva high end models.
My street shoes are EU 44-45, and i picked this shoe for long multi pitch climbs. I went for size 44, and the shoes are performing very well, you get the feeling of tightness and sharpness but also comfy enough to wear on long climbs without taking it off, I did wear them with thin socks sometimes without any problem.
I have a bit wide (close to normal) foot shape, I had no pain at all, not even when I get them out from the box for the first climbs, easy to break them in.
The sole is super durable, I couldn't find any serious damage after the climbs, the upper leather soft but keep your feet tight, the lacing system doing it's job without any issue.
I even did bouldering and sports climbing on small crimps slopers and jibs, and the shoes worked perfectly, they were always on point.
This shoe is a perfect all-rounder, I cant list any downsides, however being an all-rounder means it's never be the best in any subgroup of climbing.
*Plus the classic yellow black color and pattern makes it even cooler looking than the new generations (personal preference).
