In 1919, C.A.M.P. (Conception of Articles for Mountaineering Made in Premana) would make history by producing an alpine tool that changed the way people explored and travelled through the mountains forever. C.A.M.P. was founded in 1889 by Nicola Cordega in Premana, Italy, a blacksmith producing wrought-iron tools, but it would be Nicola's son, Antonio, who, influenced by a former member of the Italian army who emphasised the need for new tools that would allow soldiers to move faster and efficiently through alpine terrain, would make history by producing a new alpine tool: the ice axe. In 1940, the legendary climber and mountaineer Ricardo Cassin further influenced the Cordegas, and over the next fifty years they would go on to design new and better ice axes, crampons, hammers, carabiners, and pitons, with further development and innovation in the form of backpacks and rock climbing gear, like harnesses and bouldering pads. C.A.M.P. is now led by Nicola Cordega's grandsons and is still based in Promena, where they continue to be inspired and passionate about creating tools that gift to climbers new and better ways to practise their craft.
