Grivel Dark Machine

The Dark Machine from Grivel is an ultralighweight carbon technical axe made for moderate to aggressive ice and mixed climbing. The handle is all carbon, while the shaft is aluminum wrapped in carbon. By using this mix the axe can be lighter as it gains strength from the aluminium and can use less carbon than an all carbon shaft, the carbon wrap dampens the swing and adds toughness and durability. Currently the lightest T-rated tool that is available on the market, at only 490 grams.

The head is compatible with Grivels VARIO System, an innovative light modular system for interchangeable blades that fit all of Grivel's axes. Here it comes with the hot-forged Ice Vario blade for technical alpinism and ice climbing, that has an accessory system that fits like puzzle pieces to allow attatchments from nothing (a blank), to hammers (normal or mini), or an adze while using the same pick (purchased seperately). The VARIO System also allows you to choose between hot forged or laser cut blades, ice or mixed, to get the best from the type of terrain that you are tackling.

The weight distribution allows the axe to swing extremely efficiently. The Dark Machine has a higher balance point than the previous Grivel ice tools due to the material mix giving it a more natural swing.
